PSHE & RSE

“PSHE education is the school subject through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.”

— PSHE Association.

BWJPS Approach to PSHE & RSE

At Bury and Whitefield Jewish Primary School, PSHE education linked with SMSC and the teaching of British Values, addresses both pupils’ direct experience and preparation for their future. It ensures learning is revisited, reinforced and extended in age- and stage-appropriate contexts. Our PSHE programme is tailored to meet all pupils’ needs regardless of their educational needs, gender, race, disability or ethnicity.

Children reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

Our school’s vision is driven by ensuring our children have a chance to shine and preparing them for a future of possibilities. PSHE teaches children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential. We want our pupils to become responsible members of society, and so through the PSHE curriculum we encourage them to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community.

Our PSHE curriculum is based upon the 1Decision scheme and consists of a weekly half-hour lesson. Our PSHE lessons run alongside our ‘Wider World’ curriculum map that allows us to expose our children to a variety of worldwide events and traditions. Alongside these, we also follow the ‘My Happy Minds’ programme, which focuses children to learn about how their brain works; how to celebrate our strengths; building relationships; the importance of gratitude; and how to build resilience.
