Music
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.”
— Plato.
BWJPS Approach to Music
At BWJPS, we believe music is a joyful and powerful way for children to express themselves, build confidence and develop creativity. Our music curriculum follows the Kapow Primary scheme of learning, ensuring that pupils gain a broad and balanced experience of music throughout their time at school.
Children learn through singing, listening, composing, and performing, while developing key musical skills such as rhythm, pitch, notation, and improvisation. Lessons are practical and engaging, encouraging all children to take part, whether through voice, percussion, or tuned instruments.
Progression is carefully planned so that children build on their prior knowledge. To support this, we use “Flashback” time to revisit key concepts regularly, helping pupils to remember and make connections across their learning.
Our curriculum is enriched through opportunities such as whole-school singing, performances, and links with cultural and religious celebrations. We also highlight the diversity of music by exploring styles, traditions, and composers from different times and places.
By the end of their primary journey, children at BWJPS will have developed the knowledge, skills, and appreciation to enjoy music for life—whether as listeners, performers, or creators.
