Year 3
Year 3
Hello and a very warm welcome to our Year 3 class page!
This year promises to be an exciting and rewarding journey filled with new discoveries and wonderful learning experiences. In Year 3, we will explore a wide range of fascinating topics across all subjects. We will also continue to develop our reading, writing, and maths skills, building on what we’ve already learned and aiming high in everything we do.
Please Click HERE for more information on what will be taught throughout the year.
Our classroom is a place where everyone is encouraged to be curious, ask questions, and try their best. We believe in working together as a team, showing kindness and respect to one another, and always having a positive attitude. There will be plenty of opportunities to be creative, to think critically, and to grow both academically and personally.
Please remember that if there is anything you need, do come and see me – let’s work together to make your child’s year in primary school a very happy, rewarding and successful one!
SATs & End of Year Assessments
There are optional SATs tests in English and Maths. The statutory SATs take place in Year 6 and these results are reported to the government. In Years 1 – 5, children complete optional SATS and these results, along with teacher assessments throughout the year inform the final judgement. Children also complete a statutory phonics screening test, in Year 1, and a multiplication check in Year 4.
Homework
We’ve got a jam-packed curriculum ahead! In order to meet all the requirements of the National Curriculum, homework plays a vital part in our year. Kids will need a calm zone to work their magic, free from distractions. I expect them to dive into 15 to 30 minutes of homework nightly, this could be reading, times tables or set homework through the schedule. While we want kids to tackle homework solo, swoop in like a superhero if they’re stuck. Teamwork makes the dream work! If there’s a homework hiccup, feel free to ask for help.
Usual Weekly Homework – For a timetable, please look on the MTT PowerPoint
Reading
Here at BWJPS, we’re all about turning reading into a grand adventure! We’ve even set aside a special daily slot to whisk kids away on book escapades. Want to join the party? Feel free to sprinkle some book magic into our Year 3 classroom by donating new and updated books that your child has enjoyed at home. Let the bookish fun begin!
Equipment
It’s essential for children to arrive at school fully equipped, as if they are preparing for a space mission. Ensure that their uniforms and PE gear are labeled with their name to avoid any confusion. Also, remember to check their things every term to ensure it still fits and is suitable for their active PE classes.
Equipment List
Please label all equipment and replace it when required.

- H.B. Pencils (a packet of 10 with the child’s name on the box)
