"Safeguarding is a stength of the school" - OFSTED

BWJPS Attendance

AttendanceOur school has a good attendance record.  We ask that children are present in school unless there is a good reason for absence.

We register pupils twice each day at 8.50am and 1.15pm.  Pupils who arrive after the marking of the register are classified as late.  Pupils who arrive after 9.45am are listed as absent for the session.

If your child is absent from school, you must contact school and inform us of the reason for the absence.  This could be by telephone, by letter or in person.  Pupils are given unauthorised absence marks when we are not given a satisfactory reason for absence.

Holidays during term time will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances. If it is unavoidable for you to take holidays during term time, you will need to complete a form and explain clearly why term time holiday is unavoidable. Please ask to see our Attendance Policy if you require further clarification on this issue.  Any absence from school, unavoidable or otherwise is likely to affect your child’s progress and ultimately the results they achieve throughout the school.

Attendance is monitored on a school, class and individual basis.  Our Attendance Officer visits school regularly to check attendance rates and follow up instances of absence. The school holds a weekly competition and the class who has the best attendance keeps the ‘Attendance Monkey’ in their classroom and wins a prize. Certificates are awarded at the end of each term for each child that achieves 100% Attendance. A certificate and prize is awarded to every child that achieves 100% attendance for the year.
